Fundraiser

The National Capital Century is a fundraiser to benefit Metro Washington teens with special needs, teen moms, disadvantaged and typical teens.  Funds will be used for camp scholarships for needy youth and for Young Life's outreach to teens in the Washington Metropolitan Region.  Washington Metropolitan Young Life's goal is to raise $250,000.

To get started:

Set up your fundraising account on the website.  It only takes a few minutes.

  1. Click on Registration on the navigation bar at the left and provide the information in accordance with the instructions.
  2. First determine a fundraising target and the number of miles you will ride.  When asking people to support you, it is important to share these goals with them.
  3. Customize the support letter template and send it via e-mail to friends, family and co-workers.  The more people you send letters the greater likelihood that you will be successful in achieving your goal.  Remember the money is to help teens.

For example:

Assume your goal is to ride 50 miles and raise $1,500.  A friend receives your e-mail and decides to sponsor you $3.00 per mile, mid-April.  He follows the instructions and logs into the NCC site, clicks on Sponsor a Biker, clicks on your name and uses his credit card via pay-pal to contribute $150 to Young Life.  If 10 supporters contribute a similar amount you have achieved your goal of $1,500. For raising $1,500 you would be eligible to receive a $200 gift certificate to an area bike shop.
